It's been a while that I wanted to post these information but as they say 'better last than never'. That weekend 21-22.01.2012 there was no surprise in the Spanish Premier Division. Two favorites to win the championship of Spain, bunkers Real Madrid and Barcelona won their matches 4-1. Barcelona away cracked down Malaga and Leo Messi showed off his next hattrick. Real Madrid defeated Athletic Bilbao and Christiano Ronaldo scored 2 goals, both from the penalty spot. Ronaldo competes with the best player in 2011 Messi (more about that here and here) for the title of Spain's top league scorer.
There were 2 games on Sunday that mattered in the English Premier League. In the first one leader from Manchester, Citizens played Tottenham - the team from the third place. After the first goalless half, football players did not let his fans get bored in the second half. In 9 minutes they scored four goals. First, Nasri and Lescott scored goals for City and they went on 2-0 lead. But after a while it was 2-2 when the shots from Defoe and Bale denied Citizens’ 3 points.
Another stunner in this round was Manchester United's clash with Arsenal. Matches between these two teams always electrify fans from all over Britain. United played very wisely overwhelming the game for many moments and they won 2-1 deservedly. This result, especially that obtained away allowed Manchester United to maintain 3-point distance to the leader of the City (at this time).
In the Italian Serie A hit of the round was a meeting between Inter Milan and Lazio, which, after goals from Milito and Pazzini, Inter won. In other matches favorites won their matches (Jeventus, Milan and Udinese).
Teams from the Italian league were suspected of fixing matches a few seasons ago. Bookmakers around the world were very cautious with the results they obtained, especially draws. The odds on them were so small and very often these matches were withdrew from bookmakers offer.
Italian football federation reacted quite strongly and punished Juventus severely and relegated them to the lower division for fixed matches.
